4.6.16 The Red Rose, Basingstoke

The Red Rose.
After reading a really good review online about this restaurant and failing to get a table last week, we were looking forward to our visit this evening.
It wasn't an auspicious start! the carpet looked like it needed a good hoover and the serviettes- red linen were thrown at us.
We are very mixed about this review. The service was very slow and the first two waiters quite abrupt, the third waiter however was very pleasant.
The mint yogurt was an acquired taste but the Peshwari nan was delicious. Alan's samosas went down well with no grease in sight. For our mains , I had my usual- chicken tikka which was pleasant enough and served on skewers. Alan however was not impressed with his Korai, it lacked spice. The Bombay potatoes were blander than our Sunday lunch potatoes. We mentioned this as we didn't eat them and they were taken off the bill.
With such a long wait, more drinks were consumed which resulted in visits to the toilets- which were quite nice.
Oranges were served with the wet towels- as you can see from Alan's photo.
The After eights were served with complimentary a Baileys and a port.
Neither of us felt that this restaurant was worth a revisit.
7/10
